Keeping it in the Center
Every Fridley resident loves a good trip to the Springbrook Nature Center, but what we love most of all about a nature center is the nature is contained therein. Sure we like to pretend we go out into our yards and enjoy all of nature, but the truth is we want our yards to be limited nature. We want to experience the warmth, the cool breeze, the wonderful smells, and the lovely sights of birds and butterflies without having to swat the mosquitoes, shoe the hornets away from our coke, or calm our significant others down off the top of the table as the spiders swings out of nowhere right in front of their face. Yes, all of us nature lovers want a pest free nature to reside in our home and around our yards.
The Pest Center
When we think of bugs, we think about them popping out of old rotten trees, crawling out from underneath that rock or paver that you intend to move, or hiding in thick brush and bushes. The reality is that although many of such places provide nice shelter for insects and arachnids during the summer and early fall, our homes and man-made structures actually provide the ideal habitats for these pests on an ongoing basis including cold spring, fall and even winter months. Those wonderfully insulating wall voids that are meant to provide us with warmth during the months too cold for us to reside out of doors, unfortunately provide pests with the same protection.
More than warmth
As mice, beetles, ants, and spiders go roaming through our wall voids, they encounter more than just the warmth they need to be comfortable and reproduce as they are so prone to do. The walls on both sides give them both seclusion and protection from many predators, including you. It is mighty hard to squish a spider that has slipped underneath the floorboard and crawled up into the wall. As these pests continue roaming, they encounter plumbing that will lead them to water sources and subsequently food sources not to mention that it is a perfect freeway for them to cruise along.
