This has been one of the greatest springs we have seen in a long time in Brooklyn Park. The snowmelt seemed to be as if someone hit fast forward through a boring movie and caused us to skip over a never ending thaw, and jumped right into spring. April brought a wide awakening and gave life to our favorite parks and trails throughout the city.
Perfect Conditions
Like us, Japanese beetles also relish in great weather and highly anticipate the Month of June. Here in Brooklyn Park, our large areas of turf and pasture grass are ideal for developing grubs of these detested defoliators. There are hundreds of species of plants on which adults may feed and no effective natural enemies. The Japanese beetles have thrived under these conditions and have steadily expanded their geographic range on an annual basis.
No Green Thumb Here
The Japanese beetle is probably the most devastating pest of urban landscape plants in the eastern United States. They have one thing that they do really well, and that is the destruction of the leaves of some of the most beautiful trees. Typically they will work from the top of a tree or bush, and chew their way till them get to the bottom leaving a wake of destruction behind them.
