2. Remove food sources (don’t forget hard to reach places such as behind and under appliances)
3. Degrease (simply removing surface food may leave edible grease particles behind)
4. Alter the environment (reductions in temperature and humidity especially)
5. Exclusion
6. Baits, Insect Growth Regulators, and residual applications

Cockroaches will feed anywhere. If that anywhere includes a sewer, a dumpster, or some other disease-ridden place, those germs are joining the roach wherever else it goes. That wherever unfortunately may include your pantry, food, dishes, etc. In addition, their fecal droppings can contain salmonella and other contaminants. Besides the diseases that accompany roaches, their presence from airborne fecal flakes to disintegrating cast skins can contribute to asthma.

When dealing with roaches, it is important to include efforts to reduce the health impact. Regular sanitization efforts with warm soapy water will reduce the health risks. Vacuuming up cast skins and droppings with a HEPA filtered vacuum is also helpful.

Apartments, town homes, and other multi-family dwellings contribute uncontrollable elements into the cockroach equation. You cannot control all of the rooms that surround your unit.
