Bugs usually get a lot of negative press, and most of the time it’s justified. There are several bugs out there that do have some benefit to the world. Here are a few bee facts and some benefits of bees.
Bee facts
One of the interesting facts and benefits of bees is that they are the only insect in the world that make food that humans consume. Bees also have an amazing sense of smell. They can actually detect scents of different flowers from over several meters away and determine if they have pollen to collect as well.
Bees wings are some of the fastest out there. Their wings can beat around 200 times a second. Bees have also been seen traveling at speeds of around 15 miles an hour as well. An ounce of honey provides enough nutrition to sustain a bee for a trip around the entire world!
Helpful bugs from around the world – Bees
Bees are probably one of the most well known helpful bugs and they are essential to a lot of life around the world. It has been said that bees are responsible for pollinating over 90 different fruits and vegetables around the world.
These plants can’t pollinate themselves on their own so without bees, these plants may disappear from the world. Bees also pollinate a lot of plants that our livestock eat, so without them even more of our food supply would be gone. It’s estimated that the pollination activity of bees is worth billions of dollars to the US economy annually alone.
Benefits of bees – The health benefits from honey
There are also a ton of health benefits from honey that bees produce. A benefit from honey is that it has several anti-allergen properties and it is anti-bacterial as well as anti-fungal (take that dandruff!). So next time you have a cold or are feeling down adding honey to your drink of choice can help.
Another benefit is that if you have a cough it can work as a natural cough suppressant. Honey has also been shown to be beneficial with burns and wounds since it is anti-bacterial. Honey isn’t just anti-everything, it has also many probiotics, which can help with digestion among other things such as boosting memory and aiding in sleep.
