Are you sick of mole tunnels and ruined landscape in your yard? Here are a few easy tips for how to get rid of moles in your yard.

Keep Moles Out

Moles are insectivores, so basically the majority of their diet are insects. You can try and eliminate insects in the soil of the yard. This will remove the food source for moles, but isn’t very effective. The main reason for this is in addition to insects, moles also love to feast on earthworms. Since earthworms are beneficial for your yard and gardens, it doesn’t make sense to try and eliminate the worms (not to mention soil fumigation is incredibly expensive and limited in application). There are some insects that can be beneficial to the growth and maintenance of your yard. Getting rid of everything is typically not the best option.

The best way to get rid of moles in your yard is going to be to trap them. Luckily moles don’t usually live in large groups or packs and they tend to be loners. In Minnesota, this doesn’t mean that one mole is living in your yard (though that may be the case). Moles don’t see property lines like we do. If one mole wants to live in a tunnel system and another wants to live in another tunnel system 6 inches to the side, they are perfectly happy to have those few inches separate them.

How to get rid of moles in your yard – Why your traps might not work

There are a few reasons why your traps might not work. One reason is that traps are placed in the wrong spots. Another reason that putting out your own traps can fail is that you aren’t putting out enough traps. This can get expensive if you don’t know what you are doing and can also waste a lot of time getting no results.
