Jumping Spiders

Finding any kind of spider hiding in the corners of your house is scary enough, but when they JUMP out at you and bounce faster than you can react, these arachnids hit the top level of yuck. The panic these bouncing balls of terror create, make even the worst horror movie seem like a Disney cartoon. The jumping spider also happens to be among the biggest of the spider species, not to mention the fact that it has 4 sets of eyes, with the middle pair being incredibly large, so it just adds to the creep factor.

Where They Jump

Jumping spiders can be found on every continent in the world except for Antarctica. They are commonly seen around the home due to their predatory lifestyle. They hunt during the daylight hours, which is why they are one of the most commonly seen household spiders. They do not build snare webs, but pounce on their prey and inject venom. With their stubby legs and oversize head, people usually recognize their crab-like scuttle when they come out hunting during the day.

Wait, But Some Are Cute!

Yes, the jumping spider has been touted as one of the “cutest” spiders. Some varieties look almost cuddly while others are beautifully colored, such as the peacock jumping spider. While some jumping spiders have amped up the adorable factor, most people don’t want to sleep next to them. The most common variety in homes is the black jumping spider. And while its eyes may draw you in with a “puppy dog look” and sad song, let’s not forget—spiders do NOT belong in your home.

Jump On It!

While jumping spiders are not dangerous and typically aren’t aggressive toward humans, their bites can be bothersome if they happen. Not to mention, seeing them bounding along your walls is a bit unsettling. So put your mind at ease, call the experts at Rove Pest Control and let us take care of eight-legged terrors in your life.
