Fitchburg Spider Control
Spiders are natural born hunters. Some have different styles than others, but they hunt nonetheless. You can see them climbing on your walls inside or out. They are natural born hunters that prey on other arachnids, insects, or arthropods. Despite our jealousy of their amazing climbing abilities and knowing they are “good because they eat other pests”, we really don’t want to deal with them. Fortunately, we can put together a Fitchburg spider control plan that keeps them where they belong.
Spiders Are Good…Because They Eat What?
Most breeds of spiders are carnivores that prey on insects, arachnids, other arthropods and some even eat small mammals! Lots of spiders use their webs to capture prey. Other spiders can even use their web to jump through the air to catch their prey. Many spiders are more of the hunt down their prey and nab them on the run type. The question often asked is whether the amount of hunting they do has a significant impact on the other pest populations. If they are pest controllers, should we kill them? As with most conundrums, we are asking the wrong question about Fitchburg spider control.
Yes, Spiders Are Our Friends, but…
We should definitely view spiders as our friends, but that does not mean they have earned the prestigious scholarship of free room and board in my Fitchburg home. Spiders should be seen as our friends in the way we see unsuspecting informants as our friends. Spiders need food to survive just like we do. Close down The Thirsty Goat or Enrique’s and you will suddenly have fewer people roaming Cahill Main. Same with spiders. Shut down their food supply and they will go elsewhere.
Top 3 Most Frequently Called About Spiders
1. Brown Recluse Spider
These arachnids are identified by their brown coloring and violin like pattern on the back of their head. Unlike most spiders, they have 6 eyes instead of 8 (Fun fact: more spider identification is done by eye pattern than most people realize). They also have a bulbous abdomen.
Brown Recluse Spiders tend to keep to themselves and often hide in dark quiet places. More importantly, these are not native to Fitchburg. Most Fitchburg spider control calls about suspected Brown Recluse Spiders end up being:
- Wolf Spiders
- Sac Spiders
- Crab Spiders
- Ghost Spiders
2. Orb-weaver Spider
Orb-weaver spiders are known for their spiral styled web that they use to catch prey. This family of spiders comes in various shapes, sizes, and colors. This makes identification much more difficult, but they score much higher on the aesthetics scale (for those that are into that kind of thing).
If you see an Orb-Weaver spider wandering inside your home, you can be sure they are quite lost and hoping to find their way outside.
3. Jumping Spiders
These are a smaller, fury (and oftentimes considered kind of cute) spider that has 8 eyes 2 of which are positioned on the top of their head. These two eyes on top of their head are quite prominent and have a near cartoonish exaggeration. Often, they appear to consist of duller colors, but some species will have small spots or elaborate bright markings. These spiders are known for their powerful legs for jumping.
These crafty little spiders show feats of extraordinary strength being able to jump as far as 25 times the size of their body. Their jump power comes from sudden spikes in their blood pressure which propels them forward like hydraulics.

Get To Know Them
Understanding the species that is hanging around will give you the clues you need to make the changes to get them to go. You don’t need to bust out your interviewer’s hat and get that personal, but getting the family of spiders accurately identified will help immensely. If you have an active hunter, reducing food will be a primary focus. For web hunters, food source reduction will definitely help, but lighting alterations will play a significant role.
Inspect & Monitor
Routine inspections in and out will give clues as to where spider activity is developing. The more you know about spiders, the more you will be able to recognize places that are conducive to their development.
Implement Changes
Once you know the changes needed, putting them into play will bring up the Fitchburg spider control tool belt. Employing a combination of tools is best for achieving quick and long-term success in Fitchburg spider control. Some of these tools include:
- Web removal
- Egg sac removal
- Moisture adjustments
- Lighting changes
- Food source reduction
- Dusts
- Sprays
- Aerosols
- Glue boards
- Exclusion
